Alphaliteracy: theories and practices

Abstract

In this text, we review the lecture Alphabetization and Literacy: theories and practices delivered by Professor Magda Becker Soares in the scope of the cycles of lectures organized by Abralin Ao Vivo – Linguists Online event. In this lecture, linguistic and psychological theories that are considered fundamental for the lecturer in the orientation of the process of teaching and learning the alphabet principle were approached. Soares argues that alphabetization and literacy are processes which must be simultaneously developed through the use of theories and practices based on the cognitive and linguistic development of children. Therefore, it is suggested that the alphabetization process must not be centered in only one method but in “methods” because it fundamentally depends on the understanding of how a child learns.
