Alphabetization and literacy: a look at theories and practices

Abstract

In this text, we review the conference given by Magda Soares, entitled Alphabetization and Literacy: theories and practices given on July 31th, 2020 as part of the activities of the Abralin live event – Linguists Online. On the occasion, Soares discusses the scenario of difficulties encountered in the process of alphabetization and literacy, when taking as a legitimate discourse the existence of a single method to guide “how to teach” the alphabetical system and its usage skills, however, the researcher defends there are plural methods, and they are the ones that give an understanding of the process of literacy. The study points to the, orientation is to obey the child's cognitive and linguistic learning, that is, one must take into account the way he learns.
