Focus and Scope

ABRALIN’s Journal is a quarterly publication of the Associação Brasileira de Linguística [Brazilian Linguistics Association], which aims to publish original and new texts (papers, reviews, hindsight, debates, questions and issues) in all Linguistics’ field, thus contributing to the spread, strengthening and internationalization of the linguistic research in Brazil. From 2019, we will publish three issues per year: two athematic volumes, uninterruptedly, and one issue intended to thematic dossiers selected by public bidding. The shortened title of the journal is RABRALIN, which must be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic subtitles.

Background

The ABRALIN’s Journal, maintained by the Associação Brasileira de Linguística, was released in 2002 and, at first, it was published in printed version (the ISSN of that version was 1678-1805). Since 2011, ABRALIN’s Journal is only an e-publishing with ISSN 0102-7158. From 2013 to 2018, ABRALIN Newspaper was hosted on SER Periodicals portal from UFPR. In 2018, the journal migrated to a server directly linked to the Associação Brasileira de Linguística, thus operating in an OJS 3.0 system, which enables a greater graphic quality and spread to scientific publications.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Revista da Abralin is committed to maintaining high ethical standards and good publication practices, and its editorial conduct is guided by the international principles of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (http://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct). Therefore, editors, reviewers and authors follow guidelines that guide their work in the journal before, during and after the publication process of each issue. In general terms, the editors commit themselves to: (1) to investigate any instance of plagiarism or self-plagiarism by means of antiplagiarism programs when a manuscript is submitted; (2) to choose referees who do not have a conflict of interest with the authors; (3) to make the decision about the submission, based on the referees' evaluation, the focus and scope of the journal, the originality of the manuscript and the compliance of the text with the guidelines for authors. This decision is made based on the editors' reading of the text, after receiving the opinions

In relation to the reviewers, members of the editorial team of the journal or ad hoc reviewers, they commit themselves to: (1) respond to the request for immediate opinion, accepting or denying it, in order to make the entire evaluation process agile; (2) reject the evaluation if they perceive any conflict of interest in relation to the manuscript; (3) notify the editors if they perceive similarity between the manuscript and other published texts of which they are aware

Finally, the authors, already in the submission process, declare that: (1) the contribution is original and unpublished, and does not fit, therefore, in plagiarism and/or self-plagiarism; (2) in case the manuscript uses images (books, internet, etc.).), the authorization for the use of images was sent to the editors of Revista da Abralin; (3) in the case of texts with more than one author, declare the role of each author in the production of an article, according to the CRediT taxonomy; (4) in case the work has had financial support, disclose the source(s); and (5) review the text based on the relevance of the comments made by reviewers; if it considers that any comment is not relevant, explain to the editors about its decision.

Peer Review Process

The texts submitted for publication in Revista da Abralin are evaluated in two stages. The first stage, under the responsibility of the editors and/or the organizers of the thematic issues, consists of verifying the adequacy of the text to the norms of the journal and ABNT, at which time the texts may be disqualified. In the second stage, under the responsibility of consultants - members of the editorial team of the journal or ad hoc reviewers - the texts are evaluated by the double system by peers regarding content and writing, and may be rejected entirely, fully approved or with exceptions (when they need to be remade to meet the requests of reviewers). The editorial board may refuse the publication of articles that do not meet the editorial standards. In the case of any research involving human beings or animals, the certification of prior approval of the ethics committee will be required and, therefore, the protocol number must be mentioned in the text to be published. Texts approved by the editorial committee are then published with the express authorization of their authors, who are responsible for the respective legal responsibilities related to the information conveyed in them.
